With the National Weather Service forecasting temperatures below 33 degrees for Monday night, the City of Sacramento, in coordination with the County of Sacramento and the Sacramento Public Library, will open a warming center to help residents cope with the cold weather.
The warming center, at Tsakopoulos Library Galleria, will operate from 9 p.m. January 25 to 6 a.m. January 26, offering a place for people to get out of the cold as well as snacks and warm beverages. The community can enter the warming center through the entrance at 900 9th Street.
Due to impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, additional safety protocols will be in place in accordance with Public Health Orders including:
- Anyone entering the warming center will receive a temperature screening and symptom screen and required to always wear a face mask
- Persons with symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 will be referred to emergency room for evaluation prior to admittance to the warming shelter or given a motel voucher for the night
- Social distancing between individuals (households exempt) will be increased from 6’ to 12’
